סְמֵיק
סְמֵק, סְמֵיק(v. סוּמַּק) to be red (interch. with Pa. in Targ. editions). Targ. Y. Num. 31:18. Targ. Gen. 49:12 (Ms. יְסוּמְקוּן); a. fr.B. Bath.84a דקא סָמְקָאוכ׳ for it (the sun) is red in the morning and in the evening; a. e. Pa. סַמֵּיק 1) same, v. supra. 2) to redden. Targ. Y. Gen. 49:11.Lev. R. s. 12 (expl. כי יתאדם, Prov. 23:31) ודאי מְסַמֵּיק ליה (or מַסְמִיק Hif.) the wine will surely make him red (excite him). Y. Ḥag.II, 77d bot.; Y.Snh.VI, 23c בגין דלא מְסַמְּקָא אפוי (not מסמקי) in order not to make his face red (put him to shame); a. e.Part. pass. מְסַמַּק; pl. מְסַמְּקִין, מְסַמְּקֵי. Targ. Ex. 26:14. Targ. Nah. 2:4; a. e. Af. אַסְמֵיק 1) to become or be dark red. Ḥull.93b; Pes.74b אומצא דא׳ a piece of meat which is dark red (from congested blood). Ib. בין א׳ בין לא א׳ whether the fluid looks red; a. e. 2) to make red, v. supra.
