סְמֵיק

סְמֵק, סְמֵיק(v. סוּמַּק) to be red (interch. with Pa. in Targ. editions). Targ. Y. Num. 31:18. Targ. Gen. 49:12 (Ms. יְסוּמְקוּן); a. fr.B. Bath.84a דקא סָמְקָאוכ׳ for it (the sun) is red in the morning and in the evening; a. e. Pa. סַמֵּיק 1) same, v. supra. 2) to redden. Targ. Y. Gen. 49:11.Lev. R. s. 12 (expl. כי יתאדם, Prov. 23:31) ודאי מְסַמֵּיק ליה (or מַסְמִיק Hif.) the wine will surely make him red (excite him). Y.
